THE THREEPENNY OPERA

The Hypocrites 12th Anniversary Season launches with the first musical ever produced by the company, staged in the Steppenwolf Garage. It's a season opener not to be missed, as The Hypocrites take their love of the theater to a new level with one of the 20th Century masters himself, Bertolt Brecht.

The Threepenny Opera is produced as part of a Steppenwolf Theatre Visiting Company Initiative.

The Hypocrites had the hottest ticket of the 2007 – 2008 Chicago theatrical season with their SOLD-OUT hit of “Our Town” directed by and starring David Cromer. Cromer returns to the Chopin Theatre Studio, unleashing his inner-Hypocrite for a limited six week remount of this hit production.

THE HAIRY APE

Performances Tuesday – Sunday at varying times

While still early in his career O’Neill risked popular success with a turn toward experimental Expressionism, trying to capture tragedy of the working man as Capitalism grew in America. The Hypocrites add their own expressionist twist to this piece, produced as part of the O’Neill in the 21st Century festival.

The Hypocrites return to their fringe home to close their 12th Anniversary Season with a new adaptation of one of the oldest stories known to man, Sophocles’ epic tale of Oedipus Rex. Artistic Director Sean Graney adds his own twist with the premiere of his adaptation of this classic tale.

Artistic Director Sean Graney directs all 3 of the new 2008 – 2009 Season’s productions.
